Water and your Health

Understanding the benefits of drinking water is arguably more important than it ever has been in the past, especially in light of the the current trend in artifcially sweetened energy drinks and weight loss shortcuts that are doing more harm than good.  As obesity continues to rise at an alarming rate, the time for readily available and widely spread information on the basics of water consumption is here.  After all, this healthy liquid makes up the vast majority of both body chemistry as well as the makeup of the Earth, itself.  Surely we should be paying more attention to how it can help us with these modern day maladies.

Get Hydrated!

The most obvious and talked about issue with water consumption is hydration.  Since the body consists of so much water, it clearly relies on this substance for the optimum performance of vital organs.  People who suffer from dehydration often complain of fatigue, music cramps and soreness, and bad headaches in the form of migraines.  If you’re a hypochondriac like me, you might start worrying that you have some terrible malady when the solution is much simpler:  Get your recommended 8 to 12 glasses of water a day!

Getting The Toxins Out Of Your Body

The toxins that exist in just about every human environment are inevitably going to cause some issues with the body.  The only way to avoid this is to stay inside all the time, and even that still doesn’t eliminate the problem 100%.  The simplest solution to continually flushing these toxins out of the body is to drink enough water, the body’s main tool in keeping itself clean and working in optimum condition.  This might be hard to believe in light of all the crazy prescription drug marketing that we are constantly bombarded with, but it’s surprising how many issues are connected by the simple lack of water in the body.

Losing Extra Pounds

Weight loss has been and probably always will be one of the most read about issues online for a long time to come.  Obesity is getting worse every year, and it has shown virtually no signs of slowing down as one of the world’s most pressing issues, especially in the US.  The marketing of quick weight loss diet pills and other such products certainly does nothing to address the real issue, and thus people continue to search in vain for effective answers.  Much like the issue of hydration, the answer is often a very simple one:  Drink more water.  Water is an absolutely vital tool in the process of losing weight via healthy eating and vigorous exercise, as well as building muscle mass.

The last thing to consider is how your body absorbs nutrients.  When you are dehydrated, the digestive system cannot efficiently perform the task of throwing out all the harmful stuff from the food we eat while retaining the good stuff.  It is too easy to make a habit of staying dehydrated over a life time, and I’m speaking from experience here.  I can’t tell you how many stories I’ve read about people turning their digestive health around for the better by simply implementing a consistent H2O regiment.  Give it a try for yourself and see, even if you need to add a water cooler dispenser or some other device to your home in order to give yourself a visual reminder!
